Sergeant Murphy was a 27-year veteran in which he served almost 8 years in Double Oak. He was an outstanding supervisor and detective.

Sergeant Murphy was loved by his subordinates and was always available to them, and ensured they had the tools to do their job. He was someone who let the officers know they could depend on him if they needed immediate attention.

Sergeant Murphy’s hard work and dedication never went unnoticed, and he received commendations along with a Meritorious Award at the Double Oak Police Department’s first annual Police Banquet.

End of Watch Tuesday, February 15th, 2022

Officer Lonnie Sneed died as a result of contracting COVID-19 in the line of duty. Officer Sneed was training Officer Mestas' when they both contracted COVID-19.

Officer Sneed had served with the Double Oak Police Department for six years and had previously served eight years with the Springtown Police Department and one year with the Rhome Police Department.

End of Watch Monday, February 7th, 2022

Police Officer John Mestas died as a result of contracting COVID-19 in the line of duty. Officer Sneed was Officer Mestas' field training officer when they both contracted COVID-19.

Officer Mestas was a veteran of both the United States Army and the United States Air Force Reserves. He had served with the Double Oaks Police Department for three months and 15 years with the Hillsboro Police Department, Johnson County Sheriff's Office, Tarrant County Hospital District Police Department, and Somervell County Sheriff's Office.
