Where Does Our Online Sales Tax Come From?
Did you know that sales tax makes up between 30% and 33% of Double Oak’s total income revenue and that a growing portion of that comes from online purchases delivered right here in town?
However, there’s a small wrinkle in how sales tax is collected and distributed in Texas. Many towns share the same zip code, and when shopping online, websites often autofill the “City” field based on that ZIP. For example, Double Oak (75077) shares its ZIP code with Lewisville, and some online checkout systems will automatically list “Lewisville” even if your package is headed to a Double Oak address.
Here’s the key point:
Sales tax is not assigned based on ZIP code or the city name on your order. It’s based on where the item is actually delivered, as determined by official city boundaries. The Texas Comptroller uses the physical address to allocate local sales tax revenue to the correct jurisdiction. So, when your package arrives in Double Oak, that revenue should be credited to Double Oak.
That said, errors can occur when online retailers use outdated or incomplete address data.
To avoid confusion and ensure your tax dollars benefit your hometown, always double-check that your delivery city is listed as “Double Oak” when placing online orders for delivery here.
Every correctly addressed order helps keep local sales tax flowing to support our roads, public safety, and community services. Thank you for helping keep Double Oak strong and thriving!

Property Update: FM 407 and Simmons Road
As of 10/17/2025 No Additional Information on this property has been shared with Town Hall or any appointments requested.
The property at the corner of FM 407 and Simmons Road has long been identified as one of the last available parcels in Double Oak for retail or mixed-use development. The land has been listed for sale for many years, and recently the Town was notified by the property’s realtor that a potential contract is now pending.
Over the past three years, several developers have informally inquired about this site, but this is the first indication of a pending sale. If a developer moves forward, the project must follow the Town’s established ordinance-driven process before anything can be approved.
The town will continue to provide updates as information becomes available.
Double Oak Police Speed Tracker Trailer Statistics
Speed Tracker Results will now be provided on the eCode360 website at the link below with the latest results. The trailer will stay at specific locations for extended periods as we continue to analyze the data to assist in staffing our patrol hours at various locations.
The Town parked the Speed Trailer for 30 days on Kings Road to gain a statistical look at how many cars and trucks use Kings Road on a 30-day basis.
We will report the findings at the end of the 30 days.
