A Message from Our Mayor
Citizens of Double Oak
As your Mayor, I’d like to ask one simple favor of everyone this Independence Day.
This year marks the 250th birthday of the United States a remarkable milestone that reminds us of the freedoms we cherish and the responsibility we all share to treat one another with respect, even when we disagree.
The Double Oak Volunteer Fire Department has once again dedicated countless volunteer hours to organizing our annual Fourth of July parade and celebration. They do this not for recognition, but because they care deeply about our community. They deserve our appreciation and support.
Like many communities, Double Oak has important issues that generate strong opinions. Healthy debate is part of our democracy, and there will be plenty of opportunities to express those views. But Independence Day should not become a stage for political division or demonstrations that distract from the purpose of the day or diminish the efforts of the volunteers who make this tradition possible.
For just a few hours, I ask that we come together as neighbors to celebrate our nation’s 250th birthday, honor those who have served and sacrificed for our freedoms, and thank the men and women of the Double Oak Volunteer Fire Department for preserving one of our community’s most cherished traditions.
Let’s show our children and grandchildren that we can hold different viewpoints while still treating one another with dignity and respect. That is one of the greatest strengths of both our nation and our town.
I hope you’ll join me in making this year’s celebration one that reflects the very best of Double Oak.
Happy Independence Day, and thank you to the Double Oak Volunteer Fire Department for all you do.
Sincerely
Patrick Johnson
