Statement from the Town of Double Oak

To our residents:

We regret to inform you that the Town Council meeting scheduled for Monday, January 5th has been postponed due to an administrative compliance issue related to recent changes in state law governing public meeting notice requirements.

Effective September 1, 2025, amendments to the Texas Open Meetings Act require that a governmental body post its meeting agenda no later than the third business day before the date of the meeting. Under the statute, business days exclude weekends and state-recognized holidays, and the day of the meeting is not included in the calculation.

Due to a miscalculation of the required posting period resulting from the holiday schedule, the agenda for the January 5th meeting was not posted within the timeframe required by law. As a result, and after discussions with our Town Attorney, the Town Council cannot lawfully convene this meeting.

The Town takes its obligations under the Texas Open Meetings Act seriously and is committed to strict compliance with both the letter and intent of the law. We sincerely apologize for this oversight and any inconvenience it may cause to our residents.

All agenda items originally scheduled for the January 5th meeting will be moved to the Town Council meeting on Tuesday, January 20, and will be properly posted in full compliance with statutory notice requirements to ensure the public has adequate notice and opportunity to participate.

We appreciate your understanding and continued engagement in the governance of our community.

Sincerely,

Town Administration
