Tall Grass Alert: Time to Tame Those Dallisgrass Beasts!
Double Oak friends have you noticed those wild, waist-high, lanky stalks sprouting up around driveways, fence lines, and mailbox posts? That is not a forgotten crop of prairie wheat that’s dallisgrass, and it is staging a late-summer comeback!
This pesky perennial weed loves our North Texas heat and thrives in thin turf. It grows in big clumps and shoots up tall seed stalks with distinctive finger-like spikes that wave at your neighbors like “Hey, I’m still here!” If left alone, it spreads fast by seed and underground roots turning lawns into unsightly clumps of chaos.
So, here is your friendly reminder:
Grab that mower, string trimmer, or flamethrower (kidding… mostly)
Knock back those overgrown patches, especially around the curb, mailbox, and alley edges.
Spot treat if needed and consider pre-emergent next spring to avoid another invasion.
Heads up: Our Public Works team will be out and about this week taking note of properties that have let things get a little too wild. If your lawn is looking like the opening scene of Jurassic Park, you might end up with a friendly warning from the Town. So, take a little time now to stay ahead of the overgrowth and off the list.
Let’s keep our lawns looking sharp, our seed heads in check, and our town and HOA letters to a minimum. Bonus: mowing doubles as free cardio and community beautification!
If you see grass taller than your dog… it is time to cut it back.

Property Update: FM 407 and Simmons Road
As of 9/26/2025 No Additional Information on this property has been shared with Town Hall or any appointments requested.
The town is currently having discussions with professional Planning Consultants to assist if or when this development could happen. These are professionals that do this for a living and assist small towns like Double Oak to ensure that new business developments are done correctly. We have received multiple bids, and this information will be brought to Town Council at a future meeting if development would move forward.
The property at the corner of FM 407 and Simmons Road has long been identified as one of the last available parcels in Double Oak for retail or mixed-use development. The land has been listed for sale for many years, and recently the Town was notified by the property’s realtor that a potential contract is now pending.
Over the past three years, several developers have informally inquired about this site, but this is the first indication of a pending sale. If a developer moves forward, the project must follow the Town’s established ordinance-driven process before anything can be approved.
The town will continue to provide updates as information becomes available.
Double Oak Police Speed Tracker Trailer Statistics
Speed Tracker Results will now be provided on the eCode360 website at the link below with the latest results. The trailer will stay at specific locations for extended periods as we continue to analyze the data to assist in staffing our patrol hours at various locations.
Speed Trailer Summary: 500 Simmons Rd (Northbound & Southbound)
Survey Period: September 18–25, 2025
Posted Speed Limit: 30 mph.
Total Vehicles Recorded: 16,889
Key Findings
Under the Limit:
59.7% of drivers (10,080 vehicles) traveled at or below the posted limit.
Over the Limit:
40.3% of drivers (6,809 vehicles) were speeding.
Excessive Speed (40+ mph):
167 drivers exceeded 40 mph, with a significant imbalance:
Northbound: 13 violators
Southbound: 154 violators
Average Speeds:
Northbound: 29.34 mph
Southbound: 30.44 mph
Combined Average: 29.89 mph
Top Recorded Speed:
72 mph — Southbound
When It’s Happening
The majority of speeding occurs during:
Morning rush: 6:00–9:00 AM
Afternoon hours: 3:00–6:00 PM
These windows show heavier traffic volumes, with a large portion of vehicles traveling in the 31–35 mph range, indicating a “free flow” speed above the limit.
Why It Matters
Although most drivers are complying, over 4 out of 10 vehicles are speeding, and nearly 1 in 100 are doing so at excessive levels. The higher concentration of violations in the southbound direction suggests a need for continued attention in that lane, especially given the 72-mph max speed recorded.
Enforcement Reminder
The Double Oak Police Department is actively monitoring traffic patterns throughout town, including increased patrols and targeted enforcement at high-violation areas. Residents are reminded that the Town maintains a zero-tolerance policy for speeding, particularly in and around our designated school zone at Waketon/Cross Timbers and Kings Road near Downing Middle School.
Slowing down protects our community and ensures the safety of our children, neighbors, and fellow drivers.

New Safety Measures for Double Oak Public Meetings
In response to rising safety concerns at public meetings across the country, the Town of Double Oak is implementing enhanced procedures to ensure a secure and respectful environment for all attendees. While Double Oak remains a close-knit and civically engaged community, recent discussions such as those surrounding a proposed helistop have drawn heightened attention and commentary on social media platforms like Facebook. As community participation grows, so does the importance of maintaining safe and orderly public forums.
Under the direction of Police Chief Daniel Miller, and in consultation with the Denton County Fire Marshal, new safety protocols will now be in place for all public meetings held at Town Hall. These include Town Council, Planning & Zoning Commission, Board of Adjustments, and any special-called meetings. Attendees will pass through a metal detector screening, and all bags will be checked. No firearms, edged weapons, or other prohibited items will be allowed inside the building please secure these in your vehicle prior to entry.
To comply with fire code requirements, the Cook-Wilkinson Community Government Room is limited to 85 people, with an overflow area in the Town Hall lobby accommodating an additional 20 individuals. These limits are set by the Denton County Fire Marshal and will be strictly enforced. As a reminder all meetings will be broadcast LIVE on the Double Oak YouTube channel, so if you are unable to attend in person you can attend via the web.
All meetings will begin promptly at their scheduled starting times. If entering after a meeting has begun, please do so quietly to avoid disrupting the proceedings.
We appreciate the public’s continued support and cooperation as we work together to maintain the safety, civility, and accessibility of our town’s democratic processes.
